At the Long Beach Improv Collective, we believe that the skills of improv comedy can help pretty much everybody with pretty much everything. Most folks aren’t interested in becoming a professional improviser or actor – they’re simply interested in getting more out of life by pushing themselves out of their comfort zones, overcoming shyness, being bolder, gaining confidence… the list goes on and on. And that’s the beauty of improv: it teaches all of those things! And at LBIC, we provide a safe, supportive, encouraging environment that makes learning all those things fun and not nearly as scary as they seem in your head.
It seems like every day there’s a new news article about a university offering improv classes to their MBA students, or a billionaire who credits his success in large part to skills learned in improv, or Alan Alda using improv to help scientists learn to communicate more effectively. And that makes sense, because people have realized that the skills learned in improv (listening, cooperation, agreement, teamwork, confidence, communication – to name just a few) translate to literally every area of life and work. Fortunately, you don’t have to be an MBA student at a fancy university or personal friends with Alan Alda to take advantage of what they all know!
Improv classes right here in Long Beach can help with a whole host of life’s challenges: listening, being in the moment, getting along with your coworkers, self-confidence and just plain ol’ having fun. Check out Long Beach Improv Collective’s schedule of six-week classes, afternoon workshops, drop-in classes and shows to discover how you can best incorporate the skills (and joy!) of improv into your life!
